About

Practical food production for Arctic communities - developed from Narsarsuaq.

Agroprojekt Ilua is operated by Ilua ApS and led by founder Julian H. Sonne, who is based on site in Narsarsuaq, South Greenland.

The project combines greenhouse design, microclimate, light and energy, crop strategy, commercial operation and open documentation in one integrated field environment.

Narsarsuaq is the base and first reference, test and operating site. Phase 1 builds the decision basis for the first physical prototype.

The founder

Julian H. Sonne

Hi, I’m Julian — an entrepreneur with a background in landscape architecture, computer science, event- and project management, and creative problem-solving.

In April 2026, I moved to Narsarsuaq, a settlement of fewer than 50 people in a valley deep in the fjords of South Greenland.

I came because this valley makes the question concrete. Narsarsuaq has documented plant growth, existing infrastructure and enough Arctic pressure to make the work honest.

The question is simple: can this place help Greenland develop practical, measured and commercially realistic Arctic agriculture under Arctic conditions?

More than 90% of fresh produce consumed in Greenland is imported.

Costs are high, supply chains are long, and access and quality can suffer.

Greenland is not alone in this. It is a condition many Arctic communities know well.

Ilua is my attempt to build the decision basis properly. The work combines field measurements, site analysis, engineering preparation, authority clarification, crop and product choices, market validation and open documentation.

What can be shared will be published, so the work becomes useful beyond one company and one valley.

Phase 1 is underway. I am on-site now, building the decision basis, operating logic and platform foundation from Narsarsuaq itself.

The company

Developed through Ilua ApS under the name Agroprojekt Ilua.

Agroprojekt Ilua is led by Julian H. Sonne from Narsarsuaq and developed through Ilua ApS under the project name Agroprojekt Ilua.

The current work is Phase 1: the capital, development and decision step that makes the next physical prototype investable and buildable.

Public support helps build the decision basis: measurements, site analysis, engineering preparation, authority and site clarification, crop/product choices, operating assumptions and open documentation while the institutional financing track is in active dialogue; written confirmation pending.

Engineering input for Arctic Ilua is being developed with specialist partners. Names are announced only when agreements are formal and public.

How Ilua works

Develop. Test. Operate. Share.

The operating logic is simple: design systems, test them in Narsarsuaq, operate them commercially, and publish what can responsibly be shared.

01

Develop

Design the systems: greenhouse, protected microclimate, light and energy, crop strategy and operating methods.

02

Test

Validate the systems in Narsarsuaq through field observations, measurements and practical operating constraints.

03

Operate

Sell produce and test the economics in real operation as the model matures.

04

Share

Publish what can responsibly be shared: data, methods, drawings, decisions, field notes and lessons.
