Narsarsuaq, June 2026
Summer has come to Narsarsuaq, the light is almost constant, and beneath the surface the project has been moving, slowly, but in the right direction. Here is a short status on where Agroprojekt Ilua stands right now.
This week the trade publication Dagens Byggeri wrote about Agroprojekt Ilua and the Arctic greenhouse concept we are developing. You can read the article here. It is good to see interest in the project growing, also beyond Greenland.
The land case is moving through the system
Our land application has now been through consultation and has been processed by the land authority in Kommune Kujalleq. It has been passed on to the Technical Committee, where it is expected to be reviewed over the summer. This is an important step. A land allocation is the precondition for building a prototype, and the case has moved from application to political review.
We have also been in dialogue with the Department of Agriculture, Self-Sufficiency, Energy and Environment regarding the agricultural legislation, and we maintain ongoing contact with relevant local actors and potential partners.
In dialogue with Wageningen
We have begun a promising dialogue with Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands about a possible research collaboration. It is still early, and nothing has been agreed yet, but access to international research capacity could significantly strengthen the project’s technical foundation and knowledge base.
Wageningen was among those who helped develop the EDEN project under the European Space Agency, ESA, a containerised growing system built for the Neumayer Station in Antarctica, which reportedly still produces fresh greens for the researchers and crew at the station. In the longer term, we hope that Ilua can become a base for research and development of Arctic horticulture and food solutions.
What’s next
We work on the project every day, on development, regulatory processing, project maturation and not least financing. Things are happening on the financing side at the moment, and we will return as soon as there is something concrete to share. We look forward to telling you more.
